Claudia Evans Williams comes to the CSU Art Department with thirty-seven years experience as an art instructor in both the secondary schools and at the university level. Working in conjunction with the College of Education, she will coordinate and advise students in course selections to meet the art and teacher education requirements for both the Bachelors and Masters degrees in Art Education. She continued her education by obtaining an MEd and an EdS, Specialist in Education in Art, at the University of Georgia in Athens. Advocating art as a member of the National Art Education Association, she has held national office as the Director of the Southeastern Region and has been nominated twice for the Georgia Teacher of the Year Award. As one of only 100 educators chosen, she received recognition as Outstanding Teacher in the Muscogee County School District. With watercolor as her choice of medium, she has worked in various media over the years and has exhibited her work in different galleries in the southeast. Along with her strong belief in the value of art in education, she also believes in the value of the arts in society. As a long-time resident of Columbus, she has followed with great pride and anticipation the expansion of the CSU campus to the historical downtown area. As the city has grown, she has watched with interest the careful thought given to preserving its past through renovation and restoration of the mills and other buildings and also to its future with the aesthetic development of the riverfront, parks, and businesses, but most of all, to the integration of the arts, and thereby culture, that she feels will continue to enrich the lives of everyone in the community.

Artist statement

Implying the subtleties found in both the indefinite and the very definite, this collection demonstrates the effective play of ever-changing light. From the vast grandeur of the atmosphere to the layered textures of nature closely observed, I find that sublime simplicity is often self-explanatory.
