Artist statement

My recent works consider the playful seduction that we find in nature in relation to the sublime. Kant’s Theory of the sublime is about the idea of transcendence: of the everyday, the transient, and the sensual. It represents the redemptive capacity of human understanding. This idea reminds me of immediate events that happen in our surroundings, for example, a growth of mushroom and fungus on the side of a tree, the soft covered moss rocks on the side of the mountain or a flock of birds in migration. This fleeting vision leaves the viewer with a cathartic awareness of their surroundings, a sense of pleasure and a passing concern about our world.
