Department of Art

Through a progression of coursework leading to degrees in three areas: the BFA in Studio Art, the BSEd in Art Education, the MEd in Art Education, and the MAT in Art Education coupled with exposure to visiting artists and scholars and the original artworks they produce, students in the Department of Art examine art from theoretical, conceptual, and methodological perspectives. Presentations given by important visiting lecturers and artists conceptually support the work and research completed as a part of students’ classroom assignments. This partnering of coursework and intensive face-to-face interactions with artist and scholars underpins our programs and significantly contributes to students' research and working knowledge of studio practice, art education and art history.

Our department's mission in this regard is to create a learning environment within which our students readily reach an understanding of the materials, processes, content and philosophy of art in contemporary and historical perspectives.
